The average, without a fake precise number
There is no government CTC for “network engineer.” In 2026 the honest summary is this: across years of experience, Indian market write-ups cluster around ₹5–6 lakh a year. PayScale’s India sample, updated on 8 October 2026, put average base salary near ₹4.9 lakh, with entry-level total compensation near ₹3 lakh. Fresher job ads and institute guides more often quote a first CTC of ₹2.5–5 LPA.
Those figures disagree because they mix base pay, CTC, night-shift allowances, and senior architects in one title. Use them to judge whether an offer is low, normal, or strong. Do not use them as a promise.

Planning bands by experience
| Stage | Typical work | Planning CTC |
|---|---|---|
| Fresher, 0–2 years | NOC, L1 or L2, campus or branch support | ₹2.5–5 LPA |
| Early, about 2–4 years | Changes, VPN, Wi-Fi, vendor tickets | ₹4–8 LPA |
| Mid, about 4–7 years | Firewalls, WAN, small designs, some cloud | ₹6–12 LPA |
| Senior or specialist | Cloud networking, security, architecture | ₹12–25 LPA, higher in some product teams |
A fresher who can only follow a runbook should expect the lower half of the first row. A fresher who can subnet on a whiteboard, explain a lab, and show a short Python audit sometimes reaches the upper half. That is skill, not a city bonus.
What actually moves the number
- Proof of routing and switching. CCNA is the usual signal. The lab stories matter more than the PDF.
- Firewalls and remote access. Teams pay for people who can change a policy without breaking the branch.
- Cloud networking. VPC, VPN, and Direct Connect-style hybrid links. See why this beats a US-only fibre title in AWS vs Google Fiber. Course path: AWS training.
- Automation. Python or Ansible that removes repetitive changes. Depth is covered in does a network engineer need coding skills.
- Shifts and on-call. Night NOC pay can look higher on paper and feel worse in the month. Ask.
City, company, and the offer letter
Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad product teams and capability centres sit at the top of these bands. IT-services fresher batches sit in the middle. Local desktop-and-network support, including some Pondicherry roles, can sit lower and still be a valid first job if the work teaches switching rather than only printer queues.
When you read an offer, separate three numbers:
- Fixed pay, which is what reaches you each month before tax and PF
- Variable or bonus, which you should not count until you know the conditions
- CTC, which adds PF, insurance, and sometimes inflated allowances
A ₹4 LPA CTC is not ₹33,000 in hand. If a counsellor quotes only the big number, ask for the fixed part. Our placement support is there to rehearse that conversation, not to guarantee a band from this table.
Certifications, in the order that pays
- CCNA or equivalent lab skill for the first job. Network administration is the same foundation if you are not ready for the exam yet.
- One specialist step after a year of real tickets: security, or AWS networking. Both beat collecting a second entry certificate.
- Python in parallel, using this language order. It is the cheapest skill that shows up in higher mid-level posts.
CCIE-level pay exists and is irrelevant to a student choosing a first batch. Do not price a fresher course as if it produces an architect salary.
How to use this page in the next month
Write down the band that matches your years, not the senior row. Build the missing proof: a subnetting drill, a small topology, and one script or one cloud diagram. Then compare live offers with the band. If every offer is under it, the gap is usually the portfolio, not the market. If you are still choosing the course, put CCNA and AWS syllabi next to this table and see which gap you can close before placements. Book a demo if you want that read against your degree and weekly hours.
